Antarctica, the Bristol Old Vic’s latest children’s theatre adventure by Little Bulb, transforms the stage into a shimmering world of ice, wonder, and wide-eyed discovery.

With its blend of playful storytelling the production invites young audiences to become explorers, and journey to the frozen edge of the Earth—where penguins waddle, and snowstorms swirl.

The adventure starts as the audience are taking their seats, with the cast of three handing out brave explorer badges and settling people into three teams – the ships cooks, the telescope team and the map team.

Petra Maurice dazzles as the main explorer, taking the audience along with her on her snowy adventure.

She is supported by Amy Harris and Deepraj Singh, who transform into snowflakes, polar bears, seals and other creatures through the use of dance and movement.

The aim of the show is to see the majestic but very shy Owlabear, and to gain their confidence.

The small but mightily cast were amazing, really drawing the audience in, and making you feel like you were part of the crew.

My daughters Paige, aged seven, and Chloe, four, were mesmerised throughout the whole performance, which at 50 minutes is perfect for keeping their attention.

They especially loved the Owlabear and have now decided they would like one as a pet!

As the final snowflake settles and the lights rise, Antarctica leaves its young audience buzzing with excitement—and perhaps a little more curious about the world beyond their own doorstep.

Bristol Old Vic once again proves its gift for creating imaginative worlds that children can step into wholeheartedly. Antarctica may be set at the coldest place on Earth, but it sends everyone home feeling thoroughly warmed.Online tickets £11 (child 3-7) and £13 (adult) from online box office here www.bristololdvic.org.uk/whats-on/antarctica

Bristol Old Vic also has a new musical adventure for older children aged seven years plus called Treasure Island.

Thrill-seeking teen Jim Hawkins is fed up with her humdrum life on land, and longs for adventure on the stormy seas.

So, when she discovers Captain Flint’s extraordinary and infamous map, promising a daring mission to a faraway island with secret hidden treasures, it seems all her wishes have come true.

With Squire Trelawney, Captain Smollett and the mysterious Long John Silver, she sets sail on a once-in-a-lifetime quest.

But with ghostly creatures to encounter and swordfights aplenty to overcome, can her motley crew be trusted and will they ever be able to find where X marks the spot?

From a Bristol tavern to the mighty ocean waves, join Hawkins as she gets into pirate-y peril aboard the mighty Hispaniola.

Whether landlubber or salty seadog, you’ll be on the edge of your seat and tapping your toes to an infectiously catchy new score!
