Moulin Rouge! The Musical playing at the Bristol Hippodrome is a stunning spectacle that will leave you breathless.

A night of excess, emotion and breathless pop.

It is a high-octane adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s iconic 2001 film.

It explodes onstage with eye-popping costumes, lavish sets, and a chart-topping soundtrack.

It’s a sensory overload in the best possible way - part cabaret, part love story, and part pop concert.

The moment you walk in, you’re immersed.

The set spills into the audience with the iconic red windmill and elephant looming above.

The design is lush and mesmeric, transporting you instantly to the bohemian world of 1899 Paris.

A defining feature of the show is it’s mashup of more than 70 iconic pop songs, from Madonna and Beyonce to Adele and Sia.

These songs are cleverly arranged to reflect the characters emotions and the story’s tone.

Highlights include a heart-wrenching version of Adele’s Rolling In The Deep and the ecstatic Shut Up And Raise Your Glass party sequence.

Sonya Tayah’s choreography is dynamic and explosive, marrying modern dance with can-can and burlesque.

The ensemble works incredibly hard, and it shows.

Numbers like Backstage Romance” and Bad Romance are show stoppers.

The leads – Christian (Nate Landskroner) and Satine (Verity Thompson) are played with undeniable chemistry and vibrant vocals.

Supporting characters like Harold Zidler (Cameron Blakely), Toulouse-Lautrec (Kurt Kansley), and the Duke of Monroth (James Bryers) add layers of humour, passion, and menace.

Kahlia Davis, Scott Suttcliffe and Ellie Jane Grant round out the dynamic dancer-performers, bringing energy and personality to their numbers.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is very fast paced and it can be easy to miss key points which can feel overwhelming and overstuffed for some viewers, especially in Act I.

It is a complete shift from the film’s original musical arrangements and cinematic style.

Overall, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a maximalist musical joyride that’s more about feeling than thinking.

If you want an emotionally charged, visually stunning night out – this is it.

It’s a celebration of love , freedom, beauty, and truth, with enough glitter to blind the back row.

This spectacular global hit musical runs at the Bristol Hippodrome until Saturday, August 9, as part of its first ever world tour.

Set in Paris, 1899, a world of indulgent beauty and unparalleled extravagance, of bohemians and aristocrats, of boulevardiers and reprobates, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is the story of a lovesick American writer, Christian, and Satine, the dazzling star of the Moulin Rouge nightclub.
