Here comes carnival

Inspirational tv reality star, disability model and former Nailsea School student Mollie Pearce is planning to be part of the Nailsea carnival parade on Saturday, July 6.

The 22-year-old will also be helping judge all the entries which will assemble in the Clevedon Road car park from midday ready for the grand procession through the town centre.

Many schools, dance troupes, playgroups, businesses and individuals are already signed up for the fancy dress parade.

Since the 1960s the event has been a firm fixture on Nailsea’s fundraising calendar although 2024 initially posed a few hiccups with a manpower shortage.

But all’s well that ends well and now everything is in place for a great day thanks to 1st Nailsea Scouts aided by a small army of volunteers who came forward at the 11th hour to save the day.

All the details and timings are in the programme which is on sale £2 now or available to order here https://www.nailseacarnival.org.uk/programme.

Since being a finalist in the BBC show The Traitors hosted by Claudia Winkleman, Mollie has made multiple personal appearances on radio and television including a role in a skit broadcast for Red Nose Day but this is her first official Nailsea date although she has been spotted in the Beauty Rooms, Sawyers and local gym.

Girl on fire

Good sport Mollie has also competed in several challenging endurance tests involving tough terrain running and abseiling for charity.

But best of all with an Instagram following that went from a mere 2,000 to more than 102,000 fashion houses and cosmetic companies have sought help promoting their products.

She has featured in numerous glossy magazines making her THE face of 2024.

And now it is rumoured that the BBC bosses reportedly want a star from The Traitors to compete on the next Strictly Come Dancing – fingers-crossed it’s Mollie.

Mollie acting as a Faithful won the nation's hearts when she trusted double-dealing Harry Clarke too much and lost out on a share of the £95,000 jackpot on The Traitors.

A source close to the Strictly production team is reported as saying: 'Mollie's presence would also be a hugely positive moment of representation for people, like her, who have a disability.

“But, just as with The Traitors, she first has to fend off the competition from rivals like Harry.”

As well as the colourful and noisy carnival parade there will be a fair with lots of stalls, games, refreshments, live music at Millennium Park and a giant car boot sale.

Oh and don’t forget to have a go at the Days Out game with some fabulous donated prizes or put your lucky programme coupon in the box on the field for a chance of being a winner!

A carnival spokesperson said: “Now is the time to clear out your garage or your cupboards and convert some of those unwanted items into cash.

“This will also be an opportunity to sell some of those unwanted gifts that you have been wondering what to do with for a while.

“You do not need to book – just turn up at Millennium Park on the day, any time after 10am.”

Cars will cost just £10 and vans or cars with a trailer £15.

Entry to Millennium Park will be via the vehicle entrance on Nailsea Park.

Nailsea People has a special page devoted to What Mollie Did Next HERE.

And you will find lots of carnival photos from various years in the galleries.

A selection from years gone by are reproduced below.

BENDING METAL

There is increasing frustration of the mindless vandalism to the metal railings separating the Tesco car park and Millennium Park. However, Nailsea Town Council reports it is hopeful that the culprits have been caught on camera CCTV. It is feared that the skatepark will have to be temporarily closed while repairs are carried out. In November last year the light timing switch was deliberately broken. The latest wanton act of destruction took place overnight of Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21-22.

PUSS IN PUBS

In the past few weeks Sushi has been spotted in Nailsea MicroPub, Wetherspoons, Nailsea School, in the park, sunbathing outside Aaron's Pets and Golden Valley Primary School. However, he did go missing for several days so people are urged not to feed him or take him in

computer techies for the online community

The TEK Hut was started by Ben Parker in the summer of 2018.

Ben felt it right to continue the same great service customers had previously experienced but under new branding for a new business and The Tek Hut was born.
