Backwell Lake summer 2026

LITTLE DUCKS IN A  ROW: This is the first of a series of photos taken at Backwell Lake by computer boss Ben Parker, of The Tek Hut, more details on front page advertisement. This slideshow of six photographs taken on a Sony camera is entitled Ducks. The top photo isn't ducks in a row but swans and geese! If you can't wait for us to publish more images from Ben follow him at https://www.instagram.com/benzboatphotography

BIT OF A BUZZ: Flight of the bumble bee also at Backwell Lake from the lens of Ben Parker

FISH SUPPER: Pictured at Backwell Lake by Phil Williams and those in slideshow by Ben Parker. Otters are adorable, playful creatures that inhabit rivers, ponds, wetland habitats and even coastlines. Their powerful, streamlined bodies make them expert swimmers, and they love nothing better than to dive underwater to look for fish. They have no predators at Backwell Lake other than humans disturbing their habitat so please keep your distance, thanks

90s party at pub

Ring O'Bells landlords Chris and Nancy celebrate their 1st anniversary at the St Mary's Grove pub with a 90s themed all day party with the Spice Girls, Oasis and other famous names in attendance. The outside covered patio was full of revellers, midday barbecue and music

Watch the birdies with Ben Parker

ECLIPSE - NOT TOTAL: Briefly, for a few minutes, day turns to night as the Moon blocks out the Sun's light at teatime on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. We didn't get any photos of this phenomenon but got some shots of Nailsea people whose heads blocked the sun! Call them blockheads perhaps? That's Greta Howard and Phil Williams. We added a pic by former Nailsea School student Jasper White now a professional photographer. He said: "It all went dark for a moment." And then we have the video taken on The Causeway by Andy Small, Fleur CeeBee crescent photo, Nicky Bielby reflective image, Chris Perry's dazzling sunshine and Nick Wall's dog wearing the special specs to protect eyes from the blinding rays - which unfortunately some people forgot...
